Congrats UNL Detroit 2015 Graduates!

In the state of Michigan, only 77% of students are graduating from high school. Detroit Public Schools’ graduation rate is 65%. However, against the odds, Usher’s New Look Detroit Leadership Academy students are graduating 100%!

Thirty-two Detroit Leadership Academy youth are now high school graduates and headed onto the next step in their journeys: Obtaining  full-time careers. Whether they choose 4-year college, a technical school, or dare to jump straight into entrepreneurship, each student will progress into our Moguls in Training Program, which further prepares them to enter into the real world. Moguls in Training, like Detroit’s Rebecca Williams, a member of our program since high school, are now matriculating out of our core programming, but will forever be a part of the Usher’s New Look Family as UNL ALUMNI!

Read these students’ next steps and the impact UNL has had on their lives below!

2015 Detroit Moguls in Training Graduates

  • Rebecca Williams “My passion in spoken word and singing. This fall, I will join Peace Corps and return to Ghana, where I studied abroad this year. I will continue to build my the foundation for my sisters and my nonprofit, called Books IV Bonding, which we started after being inspired by Usher’s New Look. In five years, I see myself with a successful nonprofit, helping youth in Detroit and Kibera. I see it having a board of directors and advisory board. It will also have 501 (c) 3 status and core team helping the everyday operation. I also see my nonprofit having a actual office space. I will have both my masters and bachelors degree in 5 years time. I will have canceled a majority of my financial debt from college through a good financial strategy. Without New Look, I would not have traveled to Kenya and started my nonprofit.
