Executive of Citizenship and Volunteerism
We are pleased to announce the GE Foundation as this year’s recipient of the Youth Catalyst Award. Accepting on behalf of the Foundation is Kami Luigs, Executive of Citizenship and Volunteerism. The GE Foundation has been personally invested in the mentorship of New Look youth over the past three years. GE’s internship program has provided fifteen New Look youth opportunities to complete summer internships at GE headquarters in Atlanta. This partnership has provided our youth with access, awareness, and empowerment by giving them insight into various careers at GE and experiences they will take with them for a lifetime. As leader of the GE Internship Program, Kami Luigs has been instrumental in matching UNL youth with internship areas they are passionate about. Yet, her work does not end there. Kami takes her job beyond the walls of the GE offices, acting as a steward of New Look’s vision through one-on-one mentoring and guidance. We thank Kami Luigs, as well as John and Cammie Rice for their wholehearted involvement in the New Look Family.
Youth Catalyst Award
This award is given to a person or organization committed to breaking down barriers in youth leadership and leading by example, this honoree provides new perspectives on youth, leadership and community
At GE we know that a high quality education offers a lifetime of opportunities. Our philanthropic work of the GE Foundation underscores that belief. At times we give money to improve educational systems, however, just as often, we tap into the talent of our employees and ask them mentor, provide internships, or facilitate job shadowing days. At GE we take pride in supporting schools, and at the same time we enjoy offering opportunities to expose our youth to rich and meaningful STEM careers. “
