James Harris

James Harris began his adventure with Camp New Look in 2007. As a member of Youth Entrepreneurs of Kansas and graduate of J.C. Harmon High School, Harris was often selected to speak as a mentor to area youth and was involved in several student-teacher panel discussions designed to share perspectives on ways to improve the high school curriculum.

Harris was selected to attend Camp New Look in 2007 as a camper, where he was awarded the designation of Star Camper. As a former New Look camper, current Mogul In Training, member of the Youth Philanthropy and Advisory Board, and one of the first young people to execute a Powered By Service project, James has been engaged in every program Usher’s New Look offers.

He is a recipient of two grants from Usher’s New Look to use his talents and passions to create local or global change. One grant was used to increase voter registration while the other raised funds to aid the fight against malaria as a part of the Nothing But Nets campaign. In February 2009, Harris put his power to the ultimate test by testifying with Usher in front of Congress on the importance of service and the Serve America Act, a bill passed to expand opportunities for service.

In April 2011, James was hired as the New Look Atlanta Program Coordinator where he is charged with, amongst other responsibilities, facilitating bi-weekly sessions with our Atlanta youth.

Also an aspiring rapper with his musical partner Casanova Butler and their group Urban Republic (www.urbanrepublickc.com), 22-year old Harris strives to be known for more than a background beat and lyrics. Though music is his passion, his aim is to ultimately become an entrepreneur and philanthropist.
