Georgia State Capitol Hosts Career Day for UNL Atlanta Students

At Usher’s New Look, we focus on exposing students to careers that match their “spark”, or passion. On Tuesday, February 21st, Usher’s New Look Atlanta Leadership Academy students from various high schools throughout the Greater Atlanta area attended a legislative careers day at the Georgia State Capitol. The day consisted of New Look students getting a chance to experience careers in government and politics that go on in a typical day at the Capitol building, even including a hands-on mock legislative hearing.

During the hearing, New Look students were presented with a case where they had to discuss whether or not Casinos should be allowed Georgia. The New Look students argued against this from happening by providing reasons that Casinos are known to increase crime rates, drug and alcohol abuse and have other negative impacts to the state of Georgia.

The students were able to meet and interact with several new mentors in their field, including Governor Deal, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle, Andy Welch, Irene Munn, Roy Neil, Representative Demetrius Douglas and Mike Giles of the Georgia Poultry Federation. Thank you to each of these individuals for providing this life-changing exposure and allowing our students to be able to experience this amazing day.
