MITS Get Q & A with Gary Clark Jr. at Grammy U Event

New Look is all about shaping youth through unique and memorable experiences. Last week, New Look #Atlanta teamed up with Grammy U, a unique and fast-growing community of college students who are pursuing a career in the recording industry. Created by the Recording Academy, GRAMMY U helps prepare college students for their careers in the music industry by enhancing their current academic curriculum with access to recording industry professionals.

A few of our Atlanta MITs got the opportunity to attend a sound check with the acclaimed blues musician Gary Clark Jr, who over the past several months has been invited to perform with Eric Clapton, Alicia Keys, the Dave Matthews Band and the Rolling Stones and has recorded with Alicia Keys, Booker T. Jones, The Dream, and more.

After the performance, Gary answered questions from the MITs in a Q & A session. One New Look MIT, Larnell Ellison, asked Gary what inspires him to write a song? Moreover, Larnell asked if Gary had ever came up with a song based on something funny a friend had said? Gary answered that the line from his hit single ‘Bright Lights’…“Bright lights, Big City” was something he and his friends couldn’t stop saying to each other after they saw New York City for the first time.

Clark connected with the youth as if he were talking to old friends. His laid back and cool persona inspired the MITs, reminding them that you never know when fame could be right around the corner.

Thank you Grammy U and Gary Clark Jr. for inviting New Look to this event!
