Why Do We Do It?
86% of UNL youth are first generation college students.
What Do We do?
Using an online curriculum supplemented by interactions with peer and adult role models, New Look’s college aged participants (Moguls-in Training) learn essential skills necessary for them to graduate college and transition into adulthood successfully. The MITs also lead Powered By Service workshops, mentor younger students and gain valuable work experience through summer internships with New Look’s corporate and community partners. The program keeps students on track to graduate on time, seek employment or pursue graduate studies in their chosen fields.
How Do We Do It?
Moguls in Training meet virtually each month to discuss and receive information and resources that lead to college graduation; personal development; productive matriculation on college campus and successful transition into adulthood. Maintaining the peer to peer model, monthly discussions are led by a UNL alumnus who also employs industry experts where appropriate. Following the monthly session MITs are provided additional resources to assist with applying the skills covered during the session. The topics covered include the following:
Year 1-Preparation to Succeed
Academic Plan, Time Management/ Study Habits, Networking, How to choose a major, Healthy Living
Year 2- Tapping Into Resources
Goal-setting, Stress Management, Financial Literacy, Internships, Study Abroad and Business Etiquette
Year 3-Developing You
Global Awareness, Ethics & Reputation, Political Involvement, Spirituality, Graduate and Professional School
Year 4-Getting Ready for the Real World
Finding a Career Mentor, Credit, Insurance, Home/Car buying, Investing/Saving and Thesis Preparation
