New Look Atlanta Academy Students Participate in Annual ‘Mentor Walk’

On Saturday morning, New Look Atlanta Leadership Academy Youth, Zhane Simpkins (Senior, Tri Cities High School) and Melvin Taylor (Freshman, McNair High School) represented Usher’s New Look at the Fourth Annual Mentor Walk, hosted at Georgia State University. Hundreds of students from across the Atlanta metropolitan area from various school systems including Dekalb County, Atlanta Public Schools, and Fulton County participated in the walk.  The event included a tour around campus, followed by coaching sessions led by New Look’s partner, Accenture, as part of their Skills to Succeed program. Students covered concepts including applying for college, job applications, interview skills, and financial literacy. Students received breakfast, lunch, t-shirts and backpacks filled with valuable information about college, financial literacy, study skills and more!

“The mentor walk was great. We had a lot of fun. We learned a lot about college and got a lot of materials on college. Our mentor from Accenture was sweet and she knew a lot! We also met another guy, Sydney. He actually goes to Georgia State right now as a freshman. He had a lot of great insight.” -Zhane, 12th Grade

“Sydney shared with us things we can do so we don’t make the same mistakes he did during the college application process. He was a cool guy.” -Melvin, 9th Grade
