The Usher’s New Look Atlanta Leadership Academy recently heard from a brilliant guest speaker, Javier Farfan. Javier blew the youth away when he spoke about his background and his super cool position at Verizon, The Vice President of Cultural Marketing! “His job is basically to tell Verizon what’s hip and cool so that their marketing can be cutting edge,” says NY Program Coordinator, James Harris. Javier Farfan, a seasoned marketing executive, has established his career by leveraging music, entertainment, technology, and culture to build brands. Farfan is currently the Vice President of Cultural Marketing at Verizon. Previously, Javier was the head of the Music and Entertainment group across PepsiCo Beverages North America and was in charge of leading culture marketing strategy.
In 2005, he co-founded the UA School of Business for Young Women, a New York City High School Charter School that fosters the development and growth of socially conscious young women to become business leaders. Additionally, Farfan also founded JUMP Nation; a New York State non-profit youth mentoring organization.
Javier, a New York City native, holds a Master of Arts from Columbia University and a Master of Business Administration from New York University, Stern School of Business. He defines himself as a creative strategist and has a passion for entertainment, social impact, innovation and cultural immersion.
Born and raised in New York City, he’s the son of Ecuadorian immigrants who settled in West Harlem in the 1960s. From birth, therefore, he’s had to constantly evolve and adapt to fit the world around him. Javier is not afraid of taking risks because he does not focus on failure but on the experience that each opportunity brings to his life and career.
