‘Performing at the Ford Freedom Awards’ by Detroit MIT, Ajaneece Johnson

“Hi my name is Ajaneece Johnson and I am year four member of Detroit New Look. I just graduated high school and I plan to study at the Berklee College of Music this fall. Recently, I was100_0274 chosen to represent Usher’s New Look at the Ford Freedom Awards. On May 21st I got to use my talent of singing to sing the Ford Tribute Song, ‘You Raise Me Up’.  This experience helped me cultivate my talent by making me believe in myself more and my dream of becoming a vocalist. From completing this performance, I learned that when something knocks you down and it feels like you can’t get up, you should just look to the sky!!! Performing at the awards made me feel as if I could do anything I put my mind to! I’ve always known I wanted to become a vocalist and this made me want it even more.  All the love Ford and the audience showed me has made me feel as if I can do anything. A memorable moment, was when I was able to meet the Tuskegee airmen who were very cool, down to earth, and funny! I also got to meet many new people and see The Godfather, Shawn Wilson. Thank you, Ford and Usher’s New Look for this amazing opportunity.”
