At Usher’s New Look, we’re all about EXPOSURE to better circumstances. If a student thinks they might want to go into a particular career field, we make sure they get to see, feel and experience it during high school. This way, they are well prepared with an intended major and a vision for their future before heading into college. This month, we provided 25 future doctors from the UNL Detroit Leadership Academy the opportunity to sit down with real doctors, ask questions about their journeys and talk real issues. Check it out below!
Saturday, August 1st, Doctor Joia Crear of The National Medical Association along with her team of Doctors and Physicians from Wayne State University hosted a Medical Career Day for 25 Usher’s New Look Detroit students.
The Career Day took place at Ford Resource Center and we began this session with a leadership ice breaker led by Dante Hollis. Program Manager Jarvis Brown opened with 3 B’s, word of The Day and we kicked things off with a group Q&A led by Doctor Joia Crear and Doctor Matthews.
Doctor Crear and her team shared their personal stories and students asked great questions related to each doctor’s field, the process and commitment it takes to becoming a medical doctor. We followed Q&A with a working lunch food provided by Armicci’s. MIT Sequoia and Senior Shon Baker help lead exploding the issue discussions on teen pregnancy, which gave students new insights on making the right choices early. After Lunch we debriefed, and set up for our Group Photo with the entire team.
