On May 16th, Usher’s New Look’s James Harris, program Alumni and Digital Program Strategy Manager, and Myles Harlan, Mogul in Training student at Vanderbilt University, represented our organization at the annual OPPI Festival in New York City. James Harris told the story of his journey from New Look program participant to board member, then spoke on a panel alongside Siva Kumari, Director General of the International Baccalaureate, on the theme of ‘A Global View: Collaboration or Interdependence’. James educated the audience on his favorite word, SWAG, and what it means to him: To be Strong, Willing And Gifted. Myles Harlan awed the crown when he performed a rendition of Bob Marley’s ‘Redemption Song’. Check out the performance that blew up our Twitter account with rave reviews below.

Check out the great social media we received after the event!
“Well I’m very happy, thankful, and humbled to say that He answered my prayers and my performance went well! One of the educational policy makers at the event approached me afterwards, and said “What a soulful voice and [oboe] player you are.. True, genuine heart music.” When I think of soulful voices, I think of individuals, such as, Aretha Franklin or Otis Redding. But, for her to label my music and performance as Heart Music meant the WORLD to me. There’s nothing I’d want to do more than to use my voice and oboe to connect with and inspire hearts through music. Dewey Da Don has a video of the performance, so that will be coming soon! Thank you so much again #OPPI and #UshersNewLook for this amazing opportunity! Also, these tweets also meant the WORLD to me! #ThankYou #Grateful #Humbled#DreamsCanAndDoComeTrue #OutstandingEducationForAll” -Myles Harlan
